Blue Mountains Writers' Festival: David Marr in conversation with Julia Baird

David Marr was shocked to discover that his forebears served with the Native Police, the most brutal force in Australian history. His latest book, Killing for Country, is a deeply personal history of the Frontier Wars. Drawing upon his experience as a journalist, biographer and political analyst, David talks with award-winning journalist Julia Baird, as he confronts the past of his predecessors while bringing to light the bloodied dispossession of this country.

David Marr is an Australian journalist and author, having written for the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Saturday Paper, The Guardian, and The Monthly, in addition to being a reporter for Four Corners and presenter on ABC’s Media Watch. David’s most recent novel, Killing for Country: A Family Story, will be published this October.

Julia Baird is a bestselling author and award-winning journalist, known for hosting The Drum on ABC TV. Julia writes columns for a range of publications including The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, and the New York Times. Her third book, Phosphorescence, won the Australian Book Industry Book of the Year Award in 2021. Julia’s latest book Bright Shining: How Grace Changes Everything will be published in November.
